## Stainless Steel or Glass?
Both are safe and neither flavors the water. **Stainless** holds heat longer, survives drops and hides scale. **Glass** lets you watch the boil and see exactly when it needs cleaning, but it shows every mineral spot. If you want the fewest materials touching your water, stainless is the simpler choice.
## How to Keep a Plastic-Free Kettle Clean
- **Break it in.** Boil a full kettle and dump it two or three times before your first cup. It clears any manufacturing residue.
- **Descale monthly.** Fill halfway with water and a tablespoon of citric acid (or half water, half white vinegar), boil, let it sit 20 minutes, and rinse well.
- **Skip the steel wool.** Scratches give scale somewhere to grab.
