*I research and test everything I recommend. As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small commission on purchases through my links. Your price stays the same, and I get to keep testing gear for off-grid tea. Win-win.*

Yes, a portable power station can run an electric kettle, **as long as its continuous AC output is higher than the kettle's wattage**. Most kettles pull 1,200 to 1,800 watts, so you need a power station rated for at least that. Smaller units shut off the second you flip the switch.

I'm a tea person first. I love my Jetboil at camp, and I use a Fellow gooseneck at home. But I get why people want their electric kettle on a road trip: exact temperatures for green tea, no fuel canisters, and no flame in a van. Here's how to make it work.

## The Short Answer: Watts Decide It

![Camp chair set up next to a car at a campsite](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_fill,ar_3:2,g_auto,w_1200/f_auto,q_auto/blog/power-station-electric-kettle/camp-chair-next-to-a-car.jpg)

Every power station lists two numbers. **Output (watts)** is how much power it can deliver at once. **Capacity (watt-hours)** is how much energy is stored. The kettle has to fit under the first number. The second number decides how many times you can boil.

- Kettle wattage **below** the station's output: it works.
- Kettle wattage **above** the station's output: overload protection shuts it off.
- Look on the bottom of your kettle or its base for the wattage.

## Why Kettles Trip Power Stations

![Modern electric kettle](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_fill,ar_3:2,g_auto,w_1200/f_auto,q_auto/blog/power-station-electric-kettle/electric-kettle-on-white.jpg)

A kettle is one of the most power-hungry things you can plug in. It doesn't ramp up gently: the heating element pulls full power from the first second until the water boils. A 1,500 watt kettle asks for 1,500 watts immediately, every time.

That's why a power station that happily runs a laptop, lights and a mini fridge can shut off the moment you start a kettle. It's protecting itself.

## How Many Boils Per Charge?

![Electric kettle and mug ready for tea](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_fill,ar_3:2,g_auto,w_1200/f_auto,q_auto/blog/power-station-electric-kettle/electric-kettle-and-mug.jpg)

Heating one liter of cold water to a boil takes roughly **0.1 kWh**, and closer to 0.125 kWh once you count losses in the kettle and the power station. A 1,000 Wh station gives you about 850 to 900 Wh of usable energy.

- **Full 1 liter boils:** about seven per charge
- **One big mug (about 300 ml):** around 20 cups per charge
- **Gong fu (small 150 ml heats):** dozens of rounds

The easiest way to stretch a charge is to **heat only the water you need**. For tea, that's the whole game.

## Best Power Stations for an Electric Kettle

### EcoFlow Delta 3 (1,800 W, 1,024 Wh)

![EcoFlow Delta 3 portable power station](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_pad,ar_1:1,b_white,w_800/f_auto,q_auto/blog/best-way-to-boil-water-camping/ecoflow-delta-3-power-station.jpg)

My top pick. At 1,800 watts it runs nearly any household kettle, including full-size 1,500 watt models, and it recharges fast from the wall.

**Price range:** about $550 to $650. [Check for current prices](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCBYMC9D?tag=joshcaliguire-20).

### Anker SOLIX C1000 (1,800 W, 1,056 Wh)

![Anker SOLIX C1000 portable power station](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_pad,ar_1:1,b_white,w_800/f_auto,q_auto/blog/camping-tea-gear/anker-solix-c1000-power-station.jpg)

Same 1,800 watt output and similar capacity, usually for a little less. A strong value pick.

**Price range:** about $475 to $525. [Check for current prices](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5C89QKZ?tag=joshcaliguire-20).

### Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 (1,500 W, 1,070 Wh)

![Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 portable power station](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_pad,ar_1:1,b_white,w_800/f_auto,q_auto/blog/camping-tea-gear/jackery-explorer-1000-v2.jpg)

Rated for 1,500 watts, so pair it with a kettle at or under 1,500 watts (many gooseneck and travel kettles qualify). Light for its capacity and very popular with car campers.

**Price range:** about $525 to $600. [Check for current prices](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D7PPG25F?tag=joshcaliguire-20).

## Which Kettle to Bring

![Black electric kettle on a counter](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_fill,ar_3:2,g_auto,w_1200/f_auto,q_auto/blog/power-station-electric-kettle/black-kettle-on-a-counter.jpg)

### A Small 600 Watt Travel Kettle

![Small 600 watt travel electric kettle](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_pad,ar_1:1,b_white,w_800/f_auto,q_auto/blog/camping-tea-gear/small-600-watt-travel-electric-kettle.jpg)

The easy answer. At 600 watts it runs on almost any mid-size power station, and 0.6 liters is plenty for two big mugs. It's slower (about five minutes for a full kettle), but it sips power. [Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9X4RNFF?tag=joshcaliguire-20).

### Fellow Stagg EKG Pro

![Fellow Stagg EKG Pro electric gooseneck kettle](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_pad,ar_1:1,b_white,w_800/f_auto,q_auto/blog/camping-tea-gear/fellow-stagg-ekg-pro-kettle.jpg)

If you care about exact temperatures for green tea, oolong or gong fu, this is the one. I love and trust Fellow, and the gooseneck spout gives you real pour control. Its 0.9 liter size and roughly 1,200 watt draw fit under any of the power stations above.

**Price range:** about $165 to $200. [Check for current prices](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BF7DXLBF?tag=joshcaliguire-20).

## Power Station or Camp Stove?

![Pot heating on a portable stove inside a camper van](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_fill,ar_3:2,g_auto,w_1200/f_auto,q_auto/blog/power-station-electric-kettle/pot-on-a-portable-stove-in-a-van.jpg)

Honestly, for most trips a camp stove is the better tea tool. It's cheaper, lighter, boils faster and works anywhere. I compared stoves, campfire kettles and more in [Blog: The Best Way to Boil Water While Camping](https://www.joshcaliguire.com/blog/best-way-to-boil-water-camping?hsLang=en).

A power station earns its place if you already car camp or van camp with one for lights, phones and a fridge, if you're somewhere with fire restrictions, or if exact-temperature water matters to you.

## Tips for Running a Kettle Off-Grid

![Small camper in a field at night](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_fill,ar_3:2,g_auto,w_1200/f_auto,q_auto/blog/power-station-electric-kettle/camper-in-a-field-at-night.jpg)

- **Check the wattage first.** It's printed on the kettle or its base.
- **Turn off other big loads** (heaters, hair dryers) while the kettle runs.
- **Heat only what you'll drink.** Half the water, half the battery.
- **Fill a Stanley** with extra hot water so you don't reboil all day.
- **Keep it dry.** Run the kettle and power station under cover, never in the rain.
- **Recharge with solar or the car** during the day so you wake up full.

## Quick Questions

![Camper van with a lake view at dusk](https://res.cloudinary.com/cekiuehr/image/upload/c_fill,ar_3:2,g_auto,w_1200/f_auto,q_auto/blog/power-station-electric-kettle/van-with-a-lake-view-at-dusk.jpg)

**Can a portable power station run an electric kettle?**
Yes, if its continuous AC output is higher than the kettle's wattage. Most kettles draw 1,200 to 1,800 watts, so you need a power station rated for at least that much, like the EcoFlow Delta 3 or Anker SOLIX C1000 at 1,800 watts.

**How many times can a power station boil a kettle?**
A 1,000 Wh power station boils roughly seven full liters of water per charge. If you only heat one mug (about 300 ml) at a time, that's around 20 cups.

**Can a 1,000 watt power station run a kettle?**
Only a low-watt travel kettle. A normal 1,500 watt kettle will trip a 1,000 watt power station's overload protection, but a 600 watt travel kettle runs fine.

**Will a Jackery run an electric kettle?**
The Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 is rated for 1,500 watts, so it runs kettles up to 1,500 watts. Check the wattage on the bottom of your kettle first.

**Is it better to use a camp stove or a power station for tea?**
A camp stove is cheaper, lighter and faster for most trips. A power station makes sense if you already car camp with one for lights and fridges, or if you want exact temperature control for green tea.
