Tea

I research and test everything I recommend. As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small commission on purchases through my links. Your price stays the same, and I get to keep my own desk stocked with good tea. Win-win.
The best mini kettle for working from home is the Cosori 0.8 L Gooseneck. It's small enough for a desk, has temperature presets for green tea and yerba mate, and keeps water warm for an hour. If you just need hot water fast and cheap, get the Hamilton Beach 0.6 L.
A kettle at your desk changes your workday. No walking to the kitchen, no lukewarm refills, no losing your train of thought. I drink tea all day while I work, and keeping hot water within arm's reach is the one habit I'd never give up. Here's what to look for and the seven small kettles worth buying.
1. Cosori Gooseneck 0.8 L: best overall
Five temperature presets, a one-hour keep-warm mode, and a stainless interior, lid and spout. The gooseneck makes it easy to pour slowly over a tea infuser or a pour-over without splashing your keyboard. With nearly 20,000 ratings, it's one of the most proven small kettles out there, and it's the one I'd hand a friend setting up a home office. Check price on Amazon.
2. Hamilton Beach Compact Gooseneck 0.6 L: best budget
A 20 oz gooseneck with a stainless interior, auto shut-off and boil-dry protection. There's no temperature control, so it's best for black and herbal tea, instant coffee and oatmeal. For the price, it's the easiest way to stop microwaving water. Check price on Amazon.
3. Elite Gourmet Dual-Voltage Travel Kettle 0.6 L: best for travel too
A cool-touch, double-wall kettle with a fold-down handle and a voltage switch on the bottom, so it works in the US and abroad. If you work from home some days and from a hotel or coworking space on others, this is the one to pack. Check price on Amazon.
4. Dezin Small Electric Kettle 0.8 L: best cool-touch value
Double-wall and cool to the touch, with a stainless steel inner lid, spout and filter, plus an anti-splash lid. It's a simple boil-only kettle with a small footprint, a good fit for a crowded desk or a kid's homework corner. Check price on Amazon.
5. QRAGJBM Portable Kettle 450 ml: smallest with temperature control
Barely bigger than a water bottle, with four temperature presets on a touch screen. It runs on just 300 watts, so it won't fight your space heater for the circuit, but it's slow. Fill it before your call and it's ready when you hang up. Check price on Amazon.
6. Fellow Corvo EKG Pro: my pick if you want the best
Price range: about $175 to $200. Check for current prices.
At 0.9 liters it's the biggest on this list, but it earns the space. To-the-degree temperature control, a hold mode, a brew timer and a scheduled boil, so hot water is waiting when your first meeting starts. I'm a Fellow kettle person at my own desk, and the Corvo is the one I'd buy for a tea-all-day workspace. Check price on Amazon.
7. BALMUDA The Kettle 0.6 L: best-looking
Price range: about $150 to $175. Check for current prices.
A light, beautifully made 0.6 liter gooseneck with a tiny glowing light in the handle. No temperature control, so you're paying for design. If your desk is part of your living room and you want it to look good on camera, this is the one. Check price on Amazon.

Can an electric kettle trip a breaker?
It can. A standard 15 amp, 120 volt circuit handles about 1,800 watts. A 1,200 watt kettle plus a 1,500 watt space heater on the same circuit will trip it. If that's your setup, plug the kettle into a different outlet or choose a low-wattage kettle like the QRAGJBM.
What size kettle do I need for my desk?
About 0.5 to 0.8 liters. That's one big mug or two small cups, and a small kettle boils faster.
Do I need temperature control?
Only for green, white and oolong tea, or yerba mate. Black and herbal tea are fine with boiling water. If you drink matcha, see Blog: Best Kettle for Matcha.
Is a gooseneck worth it at a desk?
For pour-over coffee, yes. For tea, it's a nice-to-have. I break it down in Blog: Is a Gooseneck Kettle Worth It for Tea?
Homework: put a kettle and a tin of your favorite tea within arm's reach of your desk this week, and see how many trips to the kitchen you save.
Much love,
Josh
