The Best Matcha in Mazatlán: Why Casa Hindie is the Only Answer

If you want the best matcha in Mazatlán, the answer is Casa Hindie.

(Check out their Instagram, it's always magical).

They have two locations in the historic centro, a certified tea sommelier running the matcha program, and a drinks menu that actually thinks about what matcha can do instead of just offering one latte as an afterthought.

Quick answer: Casa Hindie has the best matcha in Mazatlán. 10/10.

Two locations in the historic centro:

— Casa Hindie Restaurant, Bakery and Cafe (the OG one, right off of Plaza Machado)

Constitución 620, Centro, 82000 Mazatlán, Sin., Mexico

Open in Google Maps

Casa Hindie Bakery and Cafe (the newer, more spacious one - near Olas Altas Beach and Taqueria Playa Sur)

Belisario Domínguez 505, Centro, 82000 Mazatlán, Sin., Mexico

Order the Matcha Latte (hot or iced) Dirty Matcha or the Matcha Colada. Tell them Josh sent you!

I've lived in Mazatlán for ten years. I've watched a lot of businesses emerge, but what Casa Hindie is doing with tea and matcha is something I haven't seen replicated here, and as someone who has worked in tea and coffee for a long time, their matcha game and creativity have no rival. Full stop!

Matcha is also blowing up globally right now, and for good reason. If you haven't tried it, or if your only reference is a powdery green thing from the grocery store or Starbucks, Casa Hindie is where you course-correct.

For a deeper look at what makes Japanese matcha unique, I've written about it here: Blog: What Is Japanese Tea? From Matcha to Sencha, Varieties, Culture, and Why It's Salty.

Run by Amazing People.

Claudia and Pau met (and fell in love) in culinary school in Barcelona and eventually built a tea brand together called Hindie Tea.

Claudia became a certified tea sommelier. Pau brought the food and hospitality vision. He is genuinely innovative. They are surfers, entrepreneurs, and parents.

They started in Monterrey's Barrio Antiguo, where they ran a tea tasting bar and offered free Gong Fu Cha ceremonies every weekend for two years. If you don't know what Gong Fu Cha is, it's the traditional Chinese tea ceremony that turns brewing into a kind of meditation. Blog: Gong Fu Cha: The Chinese Tea Ceremony That Will Slow You Down.

When the pandemic hit, they ended up in Mazatlán, fell in love with the coast, and turned a beautiful building in the historic centro into Casa Hindie. The concept started as a tea house.

Over time, Pau's food instincts took over and the kitchen became just as strong as the drink program. The food is a full menu of thoughtful, international dishes made with fresh ingredients and real technique, from sourdough toasts to poke bowls to flatbread pizza, all designed around pairing beautifully with tea.

As a tea lover, you can imagine I was STOKED when they arrived and started setting up shop. Imagine walking the streets of Mazatlan and then just happening upon this:

Ok, Let's Talk Matcha.

Hindie Tea sources their matcha from Japan and offers three versions: a ceremonial grade, a matcha latte blend, and a culinary grade used in their baked goods.

The ceremonial matcha is stone-ground and 100% organic. They describe it as having deep umami, natural sweetness, and no bitterness. That tracks with what good ceremonial matcha tastes like when it's sourced properly. This is the kind that can be whisked in water and drunk as-is, no milk, no sugar, the way it's been consumed in Japan for centuries.

Hindie has written about the full history and philosophy behind this, and full disclosure: I contributed to that post: Matcha y Té Japonés on the Hindie Tea Blog.

Their matcha latte blend is made for everyday drinking, with a subtle natural sweetness built in so you get a creamy, balanced cup without fussing. Their culinary grade goes into the kitchen for hotcakes, cookies, and anything baked.

Matcha everywhere.

What to order at Casa Hindie

This is where it gets fun. Casa Hindie has a dedicated Matcha Fresh Bar section on their menu, plus matcha threaded throughout the lattes and frappés. The drink list is creative in a way that feels intentional rather than trendy.

Honestly, they have experimented more with matcha and hojicha than any place I've ever been to.

You could visit 10 times and still try a new way to drink matcha.

The Dirty Matcha (above) is matcha latte with a shot of espresso. Matcha and coffee together sounds like it shouldn't work, and then it does, completely. Lightly sweetened, smooth, and gives you both the clean matcha energy and the depth of a good espresso.

The Matcha Colada is coconut milk, fresh pineapple, and a matcha shot. On a Mazatlán afternoon this is an obvious choice. Tropical, creamy, and the matcha cuts through the sweetness perfectly.

Their Strawberry Matcha (below) is as dreamy as you could guess. This Instagram clip will show you all you need to know.

The Matchata is rice and cinnamon horchata with a matcha shot. This one is distinctly Mexican and distinctly Hindie. You don't find this combination elsewhere.

The Limonada Mineral de Matcha is sparkling lemonade with a matcha shot, cucumber, and salt. The savory edge from the salt is unexpected and works. Good for when you want something lighter and more refreshing than a latte.

For something richer, the Matcha Mocca is matcha latte with white chocolate. There's also a Matcha Caramel Frappé and a classic Matcha Latte Frappé if you want something cold and blended.

The standard hot or cold Matcha Latte is there too, with cane sugar or unsweetened. Sometimes the classic is right.

The Food Side at Casa Hindie

On the food menu, the Matcha Hot Cakes are worth ordering. Matcha batter with maple syrup, candied nuts, strawberry, coconut cream, and blueberries. They also have an in-house bakery running daily, which is where the mini matcha cookies come from. These rotate, so ask when you arrive.

The full food menu is impressive regardless of the tea angle.

Chilaquiles (pictured above), bagels baked in-house, a salmon poke bowl, flatbreads, falafel. Pau designed a menu that works for any diet and any time of day, and they serve food all day, which in Mazatlán is not always a given.

Honestly, just do the chilaquiles. The rest can wait.

If you're a coffee lover, I've covered the broader café scene here: Blog: Best Coffee Shops in Mazatlán.  Casa Hindie has a place on that list too.

Mazatlán has surprised a lot of people in the last few years for food and drink. Casa Hindie is one of the main reasons why! For anyone visiting  Mazatlan, I point them to Casa Hindie for an amazing experience. You won't be disappointed!
